The DF&I team made another appearance at the International Telecoms Week 2024 event last week. Networking and idea sharing weren’t the only boxes our on-site team checked during the event. Our own Scott Bergs sat down with JSA for a live interview on all things dark fiber.
Read about some of the highlights below.
A Mid-Year Update
2024 is proving to be an exciting year for us. During his interview, Scott talked about some notable happenings, including how hot of a market Northern Virginia continues to be for development. Power demands continue to press out into the mid-Atlantic region, resulting in expansion north, not just toward the border, but into Maryland as well.
AI Is A Driving Force
AI continues to be a game-changer for the data center industry, which means it’s also a game-changer for DF&I. We continue to work with our data center partners to ensure we understand what these new demands mean from both a capacity standpoint as well as an overall architecture standpoint. A different communication pattern than the standard cloud computing pattern we’re used to seeing means understanding those needs is critical and timing is key.
What’s Ahead
The next 12 months are shaping up to be monumental for our team as we look to wrap up some significant projects in the works that are extending the reach of our mid-Atlantic network and densification. As those projects continue to move toward completion, large data center drivers like cloud and AI are also leading us to new markets with available power and land, but communications infrastructure doesn’t exist. We’re beginning to replicate our process that was used in Northern Virginia in these new markets that will eventually be available to everybody in those areas.
